Box Score (Game 1) | Box Score (Game 2)

The UMass Lowell River Hawks (21-22, 13-11 Northeast-10) wrapped up their final road trip of the regular season with a split against the Le Moyne Dolphins (15-17, 13-9 NE-10) in Syracuse on Sunday afternoon. After dropping the early game 5-2, UMass Lowell picked up a victory in the second game of the day, earning the 8-4 win. Sophomore Elyssa Boris (Gardner, MA) hit one homerun in each game, bringing her season total to 11, breaking the program record of nine previously set by Stacey Lajoie in 2006.

In the first game of the afternoon, it was a four-run fourth inning by the Dolphins that did the River Hawks in, as UMass Lowell dropped a 5-2 decision that snapped a three-game win streak. Le Moyne went up 1-0 after the first, but scoring once in both of the subsequent innings gave the River Hawks a 2-1 lead through three. Le Moyne powered through, piecing together a two-out rally that scored four.

Boris pitched the complete game for UMass Lowell, allowing five runs on nine hits through six innings. She struck out two batters and did not walk anyone in the game. With the loss, she falls to 8-9 on the year. Le Moyne's Jenna Vanacore improved to 8-5 with the complete game, four-hit performance. She allowed both UMass Lowell runs, one earned, in seven innings of work and struck out four River Hawks in the game.

Offensively, UMass Lowell's Brianna Mahoney (Billerica, MA) continued her consistency of late, going a team-best 2-3 in the game, while Boris went 1-3 and notched her 10th homerun of the year.

In the second game of the afternoon, rookie pitcher Alyssa Bryan (Stoneham, MA) picked up her second victory of the weekend and 11th of the year, improving to 11-8 after allowing three runs in five innings of work. She struck out one and walked one, allowing just six hits during her time on the mound. She was relieved by Boris, who allowed just two hits in as many innings and let up one run, unearned. Vanacore pitched another two innings for the Dolphins in the second game, allowing three runs on two hits.

Boris went 1-4 in the game, blasting a three-run homer to centerfield in the first to put her squad up 3-0 and give the River Hawks a lead they would not relinquish. Sophomore SS Meagan Guy (Berlin, CT) also notched a homerun in the game, her first collegiate longball, bringing pinch runner Ashley Daniels (Medford, MA) home as part of a four-run sixth inning that helped seal the deal for the River Hawks.

UMass Lowell was up 4-0 through four innings, before the Dolphins brought it back within one run, scoring three times in the fourth. The River Hawks came back with the big sixth frame, expanding their lead back up with an 8-3 lead. Le Moyne tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh, but only mustered one run before the River Hawks made the third out.

Freshman Krista MacKenzie (Ipswich, MA) went 1-3 in the game with two runs scored, while classmate Mahoney went 1-4, scoring once. Fellow freshman Bryan went 1-1 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore C Lindsi Panarelli (Shrewsbury, MA) went 2-4 in the game.

Next up for the River Hawks, the squad will play their final eight regular season games at home on River View Field, beginning with a conference doubleheader against Franklin Pierce beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. Fans will enjoy free food from Moe's Southwest Grill at the game, as well.
