Senior Jacqui Barrett (Woburn, MA) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Field Athlete of the Week while graduate student Ruben Sanca (Boston, MA) earned Track Athlete of the Week honors, the Conference announced Tuesday.
The honor marks the fourth straight week Barrett has earned the distinction while Sanca earned the honor a second straight week.
The two standouts led a host of stellar efforts over the weekend, Sanca at both the Mount San Antonio College Relays and Long Beach State Beach Invitational; and Barrett at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational.
Barrett won her fourth consecutive shot put title of the season and posted the top throw in the country thus far, a distance of 49 feet, 11.75 inches.
The throw, signifying the fourth straight week in which Barrett marked a personal record, eclipsed the toss of Lauren Buresh of Grand Valley State (49' 10.0'') as the top this season.
Sanca enjoyed a busy week as he placed 26th overall - third among the three Division II runners in the field - in the 5,000 meters Friday in 14:05.39, currently fifth on the Division II list.
Sanca's result marked the third event in which he has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship. He also ranks ninth in the 10,000 meters (29:49.48) and 13th in the 1,500 meters (3:50.76).
On Saturday, Sanca placed eighth overall (third among Division II entries) in the 1,500 meters at the Beach Invitational in 3:52.67.
UMass Lowell enters the Brown Springtime Invitational Sunday.
