Lutkus, Barrett Earn Weekly NE-10 Honors

April 15, 2010

Seniors Katrina Lutkus (Lowell, MA) and Jacqui Barrett (Woburn, MA) each earned weekly honors from the Northeast-10 Conference following stellar results at UMass Lowell’s George Davis Invitational Saturday.

Lutkus, named the NE-10 Co-Track Athlete of the Week, won both the 100 meter dash and ran a leg on UMass Lowell’s 4X100 meter relay team while Barrett, the Field Athlete of the Week, captured the shot put for the third time in as many meets.

Lutkus ran the 100 meter dash in 12.60 seconds – just 0.28 seconds short of the meet/facility record – while the 4X100 meter relay team posted a time of 48.91 seconds.

Barrett threw the shot put 49 feet 9.0 inches to mark the second time in three meets she achieved a personal best result. Barrett’s result currently ranks second in the country by just an inch behind Grand Valley State’s Lauren Buresh (49’ 10.0’’).

A select few athletes will compete at the renown Mount San Antonio College Relays Thursday-Saturday in Walnut, CA, while the remainder of the teams will compete at the Princeton University Larry Ellis Invitational Friday and Saturday.
