The UMass Lowell baseball team (12-8, 1-3 NE-10) came up short, 5-0, in Thursday's matinee game with Bentley (9-12, 4-2 NE-10) at LeLacheur Park. Jared Notargiacomo (Newburyport, MA) was two-for-four at the plate, accounting for half of the River Hawks' total hits.

After a quick first inning, the Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second with a thunderous two-run home run from Brett Damato (Commack, NY) that sailed over the left field scoreboard.

"You tip your cap to Bentley," said head coach Ken Harring. "They came back after we put it to them pretty good yesterday. I'm a firm believer that when your seniors like Damato come through, that's the difference in games."

The Falcons went on to pick up three more runs over the final seven innings as Bentley's pitching kept the UMass Lowell offense at bay. Junior Rob Finneran (Garden City, NY) threw a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts.

Of the four hits Finneran surrendered, Notargiacomo had two including a double in the seventh as he looked to jumpstart the River Hawks' bats. JT Leary (Newburyport, MA) followed with a single, but the inning was cut short as Notargiacomo was thrown out at home on a fly ball to left field during the next at bat.

Junior Ted Haley (Cranston, RI) started on the mound, but was chased after three plus innings of work. Haley surrendered three runs and seven hits before being relieved by Dallas Nunes (Easton, MA). Nunes held Bentley to two runs over the next five innings and Ryan Stoller (Milton, MA) pitched a scoreless ninth.

UMass Lowell will look to bounce back this weekend as they travel to New Haven for a Saturday afternoon double-header. Game one is scheduled for 12 p.m.
