Box Score
UMass Lowell baseball (11-5) secured its eighth win in nine games on its annual Florida trip, ending in style with a 5-0 victory over Nyack (1-10) on Thursday. Freshman hurler Garrett Cole (Manchester, NH) threw eight innings of shutout ball while striking out 11 Warrior batters.
In addition to piling up strikeouts, Cole did not issue a walk in the contest. Sophomore right-hander Tyler Toyfair (Agawam, MA) pitched the ninth, allowing one hit and striking out a batter.
Some familiar faces provided the offense on Thursday as junior Sean Burns (Colchester, VT) continued his red hot pace with three hits, an RBI, a run scored and a double. He was aided by senior JT Leary (Newburyport, MA) who went one-for-three with an RBI, walk and stolen base.
Luke Wallace (Yorktown Heights, NY) connected on his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, while also scoring two runs. The junior outfielder has already tied his career-high for home runs in a season, set in 2008 during his freshman campaign.
The River Hawks will now return to Lowell for their 2010 home opener on Saturday. UMass Lowell will host Northeast-10 foe Southern Connecticut State in a double-header scheduled for 12 p.m.
