Senior left-winger Kory Falite (Billerica, MA) was named one of sixteen semi-finalists for the 58th Walter Brown Award, announced Gridiron Club of Greater Boston president Steve Grogan on Monday.
The Walter Brown Award is given annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England. Past recipients have included current and former NHL players such as Chris Drury (1997, 98) and Brian Leetch (1987). Also, a pair of Hockey East coaches, Jerry York (1967) and Tim Army (1985), earned the distinction during their playing careers.
Falite is one of 11 players selected from Hockey East and currently leads UMass Lowell in scoring with 25 points on 14 goals and 11 assists. He sits just three shy of becoming the 39th skater in program history to tally 100 career points.
This is the second-consecutive season Falite has been named a semi-finalist for the honor, won by Boston University's Matt Gilroy last season.
The Gridiron Club will announce the finalists and winner of the Walter Brown Award in March, following league playoffs and before the start of NCAA Tournament play.
