Bianca Simmons, a sophomore from Middletown, Conn. (Mercy H.S.) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Co-Player of the Week Monday, the Conference announced.
The honor marked the second time in three weeks that Simmons received player of the week status. She shared the honor with junior Ashley Rath of Saint Rose, who had 33 points and eight rebounds in a 77-63 win over Le Moyne.
In a 1-1 week, Simmons had averages of 24.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists as UMass Lowell suffered a 71-62 loss at Franklin Pierce and defeated Merrimack 66-60 Saturday at the Tsongas Center.
Despite the loss, Simmons compiled 23 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to lead the River Hawks. She followed with 25 points, 12 rebounds and four assists in Saturday's win over Merrimack.
"We talk a great deal about consistency and certainly, Bianca has been consistent for us," said Head Coach Kathy O'Neil.
For the season, Simmons has put together averages of 17.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists while shooting .787 from the line. Among Northeast-10 Conference leaders, she currently ranks second in assists, fifth in scoring, and 13th in free throw accuracy (.787) and assist-turnover ratio (1.00).
UMass Lowell returns to action Thursday, Dec. 30 when it hosts Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Caldwell College (5:00).
