On the heels of a frustrating third period loss on Friday night, the River Hawk hockey club (2-13-2, 2-10-0 Hockey East) battles Princeton (7-5-0, 6-3-0 ECAC) on Saturday night at the Hobey Baker Rink. The contest will be UMass Lowell's last before heading into the holiday break that spans nearly four weeks.
The River Hawks lead the all-time series with the Tigers, 4-2-0, but have lost the last two meetings. Among the losses, UMass Lowell fell to Princeton, 5-2, on Friday night despite leading for much of the second and third periods. The Tigers scored four goals in the final eight minutes to upend the River Hawks.
UMass Lowell picked up tallies from David Vallorani (Hamilton, Ont.) and Matt Ferreira (Brampton, Ont.) in the loss. Freshman Derek Arnold (Foxboro, Mass.) assisted on both goals.
Netminder Doug Carr (Hanover, Mass.) played well in net, making 40 stops--the second most of his career. Carr also turned away four of five Princeton power plays. The night marked the seventh time Carr tallied 30 or more saves in a game this year.
For the season Riley Wetmore (Swanton, Vt.) continues to carry the River Hawk offense with 14 points on seven goals and seven assists. Wetmore has scored seven points in the last seven games.
Following tonight's contest, UMass Lowell will take a break from the ice until Jan. 7, 2011 when the River Hawks visit the New Hampshire Wildcats.
