The UMass Lowell women's and men's basketball teams visit Southern New Hampshire University in a pair of Northeast-10 Conference basketball games tonight at the SNHU Fieldhouse (5:30, 7:30 p.m.).
Both programs currently find themselves at the opposite ends of the spectrum as the River Hawk women (0-3 overall, 0-1 in the NE-10) are looking for their first victory while the men (3-0, 1-0 NE-10) aim to continue unblemished.
The UMass Lowell women, with 13 freshmen and sophomores (including nine newcomers), opened NE-10 play last Wednesday with an 80-64 home loss to Saint Michael's. The River Hawks meet a Southern New Hampshire squad which has split its first two games: a 71-38 home win over Concordia and a 53-45 loss at Saint Anselm last Wednesday.
UMass Lowell leads the all-time series against SNHU, 43-21, but the Penmen have won three of the last four meetings. The two split last year with each holding firm at home: UMass Lowell 59-56 on Nov. 24 and the Penmen 70-61 on Feb. 9.
UMass Lowell visits Walsh (Ohio) University Saturday at 1:00 and returns home next Wednesday, Dec. 1, to host NE-10 preseason favorite Bentley (5:30).
On the men's side, the River Hawks are fresh off a 71-54 victory over Saint Michael's last Wednesday, which proceeded an 85-79 win over Post University and an 81-71 victory over Felician Nov. 13-14 at the UMass Lowell Tipoff Classic.
Southern New Hampshire enters tonight's game a winner in two of its first three. The Penmen defeated Mercy College, 86-61, Saturday, bouncing back from a 64-49 loss at Saint Anselm last Wednesday. SNHU opened the season with a 76-65 win over Thomas College.
Southern New Hampshire leads the all-time series, 42-27, and the two rivals have split the last six meetings. Last year, UMass Lowell swept the season series, winning 61-47 at home and 67-64 in Manchester, N.H.
The River Hawks return home next Wednesday, Dec. 1, to host NE-10 preseason No. 1 Bentley (7:30).
