UMass Lowell opens the Northeast-10 Conference slate today at 5:30 against Saint Michael's College at the Costello Athletic Center.
The River Hawks are fresh off a pair of to-the-wire losses at the American International College Tipoff Classic Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, UMass Lowell suffered a 56-55 setback to East Coast Conference preseason favorite C.W. Post, and came back wtih a 62-58 loss Sunday against Bloomfield College.
UMass Lowell leads the all-time series against Saint Michael's, 20-16, but the Purple Knights have won five of the last seven meetings. Last year the two rivals split with each holding firm at home: Saint Michael's 60-59 at the Ross Sports Center in the season opener and the River Hawks 64-62 at Costello on Feb. 3.
The last six meetings between UMass Lowell and Saint Michael’s, in which the Purple Knights have won four, have been decided by a total of 14 points and an average of 2.3 points per. In fact, the last three meetings have been decided by a mere four points: UMass Lowell’s 64-62 win last February; and Saint Michael’s 63-62 victory Jan. 3, 2009 in Lowell; and 60-59 win on Nov. 18 in Colchester, VT.
UMass Lowell returns to action next Tuesday at Southern New Hampshire.
