Junior M Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y.) scored two goals, including the game-winning free kick in overtime, to lead Le Moyne College over UMass Lowell, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer clash at Cushing Field.

The loss was the fifth straight for the River Hawks, who slipped to 1-9-1 overall and 0-7-1 in the NE-10 entering Tuesday’s match at Saint Michael’s (3:30).

The win was the fourth consecutive for the Dolphins, who improved to 6-2-3 overall and 5-1-2 in the Conference and host Southern Connecticut Tuesday at 4:00.

Trailing 1-0 from a 14th minute penalty kick by Carr, UMass Lowell was given a lifeline in the 90th minute when Le Moyne was whistled for a handball in the box, resulting in a penalty kick of its own.

Senior F Stephen Potcner (Wilmington, Mass.) sent freshman GK Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ont.) left while he calmly slotted right to force overtime.

The River Hawks nearly scored in the second minute of extra time when sophomore M Ryan McLeod (Haverhill, Mass.) gathered a rebound off a deflected shot at the top of the box, but his attempt was right at Silva.

Just a minute later, after a foul on the left flank just outside the goalbox, Carr steered a right-footed a free kick just under the crossbar and through the reach of freshman GK Connor Askins (Boston, Mass.) for the winner.

Le Moyne went ahead after 14 minutes when senior F Zach Kuzemka (Chenango Forks, N.Y.) was tripped in the box. Carr slotted the spot kick inside the right post as Askins guessed left.

Shots favored UMass Lowell, 17-13 overall, but Le Moyne had a 6-5 edge on frame. Both teams consistently created chances and the River Hawks nearly equalized in the 41st minute when junior F Mohammed Saeed (Woburn, Mass.) took a throw-in from the left side, turned and uncorked a shot which grazed the top of the bar.

The Dolphins nearly doubled their lead in the 45th minute when an attempt by freshman F Emmanuel Chanelo (Syracuse, N.Y.) from the top left of the six-yard box was cleared off the line by freshman M Neil Lavanchy (Scituate, Mass.).

Askins had two saves for UMass Lowell while Silva stopped four shots for Le Moyne.
