UMass Lowell volleyball returns to Costello Gym for its first home match since Sept. 22, hosting Stonehill College tonight at 7 p.m.
The River Hawks emerged with a 3-2 record during its recent five-game road trip. Currently 3-0 at home this season, UMass Lowell will benefit from a schedule that has seven of its final 12 matches in Costello Gym.
In order to climb up the Northeast-10 standings, UMass Lowell will look to several key contributors for support.
Senior Vicky Wong (Tewksbury, Mass.) was the River Hawks' top threat on the serve last season, leading the team with 48 aces in 2009. Wong is bringing the heat again with 21 so far in 2010 and has tallied a season-high five aces on two occasions this season.
Freshman Carolyn Eddy (Dracut, Mass.) has moved into the libero position nicely, leading the team with 238 digs. Eddy has reached double-digit digs in 12 of 14 matches and surpassed 20 or more digs five times.
Lastly, sophomore Kristina Wiltjer (San Diego, Calif.) has blossomed in her first year at setter. The River Hawks' offense goes as she goes; when Wiltjer tallies 25 or more assists, UMass Lowell is 8-4 overall.
The River Hawks will key in on the Skyhawks' top offensive threat, junior Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y.). Huselton has recorded a team-best 119 kills while adding 122 digs this season.
Following tonight's contest, the River Hawks take a week off before heading to Rindge, NH to face Franklin Pierce on Oct. 13 at 7 PM.
