Junior F Josh Rocco (North Reading, Mass.) scored the lone goal in the 107th minute to lead Saint Anselm over UMass Lowell, 1-0 in double overtime, Monday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer match at Cushing Field.

The loss was the third straight for UMass Lowell, which currently stands at 1-7-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the NE-10 entering Wednesday's home clash against Bentley (7:00). Saint Anselm improved to 2-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the NE-10 and hosts No. 14 Merrimack Wednesday at 4:00.

Sophomore M Maximillian Glebocki (Wilbraham, Mass.) took a pass from the left side, turned and fed Rocco streaking down the right. Rocco slotted the attempt just inside the far post for the winner.

Chances were abound for both teams, particularly late in the second half and first overtime. Perhaps the best chance of the match, however, came for UMass Lowell in the 30th minute when junior F Mohammed Saeed (Woburn, Mass.) pounced on a defensive error and went free against sophomore GK Eric Moriarty (Center Harbor, N.H.), only to have Moriarty parry his sidefoot around the left post.

The River Hawks had a pair of chances late in regulation as well. In the 83rd, junior D Asley Barrios (Revere, Mass.) sent a free kick into the box, but a header by sophomore D Evan Spann (Acton, Mass.) went right to Moriarty. Three minutes later, sophomore D Charlie Ober (Atkinson, N.H.) was given space at the top of the box, but his right-footed attempt curled around the right post.

The Hawks had a chance in the 88th when Glebocki took a pass on the run inside the box, but slotted wide left.

Both Moriarty and UMass Lowell freshman Connor Askins (Boston, Mass.) came up with huge saves in extra time. Barrios delivered another free kick from the left flank to the head of Saeed, which Moriarty gloved wide of the left post.

In the 102nd, Askins dove right to parry a header by Rocco.

Saint Anselm had a 15-14 edge on shots but each team had five shots on target. Moriarty had five saves while Askins had four.
