With a Northeast-10 Conference Tournament bid on the line, UMass Lowell hosts Assumption College tonight at 7:00 at Cushing Field.
Keeping with tradition with the final home match of the year, seniors Brianne Bozzella, Michelle LaMar and Ella Merullo will be recognized prior to kickoff.
Simply put, UMass Lowell needs a victory tonight at the expense of Assumption to earn a bid to the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. With a loss or a tie, the River Hawks could still get in but would need help from several other matches.
Entering today's final slate of regular season conference games, UMass Lowell can finish no higher than seventh as it is tied with Southern Connecticut (at Saint Rose today at 5) with 21 points and sits a point above New Haven (hosts Adelphi, 3) and Stonehill (hosts Merrimack, 3:30).
Assumption enters tonight's clash winless in its last four matches (1-1-2), the latest a 3-1 setback at home to Southern New Hampshire Saturday.
UMass Lowell halted a three-match slide Saturday behind a three-goal second half in a 3-0 win over Pace at Cushing Field.
Assumption leads the all-time series against the River Hawks 12-2-2, but the recent history has been closer than advertised. Neither team has scored more than one goal in the last eight meetings, which Assumption leads, 4-2-2.
Three of the last four meetings between the River Hawks and Greyhounds have gone to double overtime. Perhaps more surprising, UMass Lowell has never defeated Assumption at Cushing Field in nine games (0-7-2).
