Hockey Legend Jim Craig to Support Nephew Craig Charron's Charity at Tsongas Center Friday Night

Oct. 27, 2010

Olympic Gold Medalist and College Hockey National Champion Jim Craig will be in attendance at this Friday night's UMass Lowell River Hawks game in support of his nephew, Craig Charron, who recently passed away after a brave battle with stomach cancer.

Craig will sign photos for fans that make a donation to Sharky's Fight, Charron's charitable foundation, during the first intermission.

A signed 1980 USA Hockey Jersey, signed hardcover cover of America's Athletes, and three 8x10 signed photos of Craig in action for the Boston Bruins will also be auctioned off with all proceeds benefiting Sharky's Fight.

Craig will also officially start Friday night's game between the home UMass Lowell River Hawks and #5 Boston University Terriers at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell at 7:00 p.m. when he drops the ceremonial first puck.

In addition to the aforementioned items, UMass Lowell will be selling a limited number of Charron replica jerseys worn by the 2010-11 River Hawks during warm-ups. Fans who purchase these jerseys will receive ten complimentary tickets to an upcoming game as well as a Charron print. Prints and Sharky's Fight bracelets are also available for purchase with all proceeds benefiting the cause.

Charron skated for the ULowell Chiefs from 1986-1990 and was recently recognized as Legend of Lowell Hockey. After graduation from Lowell, he played for the Rochester Americans and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2008.

Sharky's Fight is a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organization formed in conjunction with the Rochester Americans Alumni Association. The fund is working to raise money for Charron's wife, Wendy, and their four children, Jackson, Nicholas, Hunter and Emma, in the wake of his passing.
