UMass Lowell hosts Merrimack tonight at 7:00 at Cushing Field, its final home match of the regular season. Seniors Stephen Potcner and Guillermo Cisneros will be recognized prior to kickoff.
As UMass Lowell looks to win out the remainder of the season, a victory tonight against Merrimack would provide a huge confidence boost heading into Friday's season finale at New Haven.
UMass Lowell is fresh off a 2-1 victory at Saint Rose Saturday behind first-ever goals from Evan Spann and Kyle Garvan; and previously a 1-1 deadlock against Southern Connecticut on Oct. 16.
While the River Hawks will end their season Friday (at New Haven, 2:00), Merrimack, following Friday's season finale at Southern Connecticut, is among a handful of teams looking to solidify its place in the NE-10 Tournament. The Warriors currently share sixth place with Assumption with 16 points while Saint Michael's and New Haven are close behind on 15 points.
The Warriors opened the season with seven wins in eight matches, but has since gone 2-4-1 in the month of October.
UMass Lowell leads the all-time series against Merrimack, 19-17-1, but it is the Warriors with the momentum as they have gone 4-0-1 over the last five years against the River Hawks. The last time UMass Lowell scored a win over Merrimack was Oct. 20, 2004 at Cushing Field.
