UMass Lowell volleyball raised over $700 through "Dig for the Cure", held last Saturday during its 3-2 loss against Southern Connecticut St. The funds, raised from a combination of donations at the door, pledges per dig and t-shirt sales, will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
"For a first effort, we generated a lot of interest and support for the Susan G. Komen Foundation," said Senor Associate Athletic Director Joan Lehoullier. "We'd like to thank all those who donated and came to the match to support the cause. We hope to build on this to make next year's 'Dig for the Cure' an even bigger success."
Players wore pink apparel in support of the cause while many fans purchased "Dig for the Cure" t-shirts. Supporters who pledged per dig were not disappointed as the River Hawks delivered 66 in the five set match.
Of the large crowd, many wore pink while cheering on UMass Lowell in its late rally that fell just short.
