The River Hawk volleyball team looks to heat up over its final eight matches as they jockey for position in the Northeast-10 conference. UMass Lowell (9-9, 4-4 NE-10) heads to Saint Anselm (2-12, 1-8 NE-10) at 7 p.m. for a battle in the Stoutenburgh Gym.
In the midst of a two-game skid, the River Hawks will try and rebound from a five set loss to Southern Connecticut St. on Saturday. After dropping the first two sets, UMass Lowell fought back to even the score at 2-2. Despite the rally, the Owls ran away in the final frame to steal a victory in the Costello Gym.
Senior Sarah Coscia (Pittsfield, Mass.) put a charge into the offense with 20 kills, seven blocks and six digs. She was aided by sophomore Kristina Wiltjer (San Diego, Calif.) who poured on 47 assists, 12 digs and four blocks.
For the season, Coscia continues to power the River Hawk attack with 3.75 kills per set, second most in the NE-10. In addition, she ranks first in points (4.60), fifth in hitting percentage (.309) and sixth in blocks (0.79).
Wiltjer is also having a strong season with 615 assists, 183 digs and 22 service aces. In 18 matches, Wiltjer has tallied 10 double-doubles and has gone over the 40 assist mark on five occasions.
Libero Carolyn Eddy (Dracut, Mass.) has quietly assembled an outstanding rookie campaign. Eddy has a team-best 305 digs and averages 4.24 per set, eighth most in the NE-10 and highest among conference freshmen.
Saint Anselm is led offensively by Charlotte Tencza who has a team-high 134 kills and is the lone Hawk to reach triple-digits. Tencza averages 2.79 kills per set.
After tonight's match, UMass Lowell returns to Lowell for a Saturday afternoon contest against Southern New Hampshire at 1 p.m.
