UMass Lowell baseball has named Kevin Gately and Keith Beauregard as assistant coaches, as announced by head coach Ken Harring on Tuesday.
Beauregard will work with the outfielders, base runners and hitters, while Gately will focus on the infielders. The pair will take over for recently departed assistants Ken Kessaris and Mark Sakelakos.
"I'm excited for the level of experience we've added to our coaching staff," said Harring.
Gately joins UMass Lowell after wrapping up his third season as an assistant coach with Holy Cross. Prior to that, Gately served as the infield, outfield and hitting coach at Northeastern, while also acting as the assistant recruiting coordinator.
"Kevin brings a wealth of experience from two very good programs in Northeastern and Holy Cross," Harring added. "We worked together at Northeastern, so I know his coaching style. His knowledge, experience, and energy will be felt immediately in our program."
Gately was the starting shortstop for the Huskies from 1991-94. His crowning achievement came as captain of the 1994 team that won the America East conference, earning a bid to the program's first NCAA regional tournament since the 1960's.
"I'm excited to join the UMass Lowell program," said Gately. "I coached alongside Ken Harring for three years and look forward to repeating the success we had at Northeastern."
While a player at Northeastern, Gately earned his Bachelor's degree in Political Science in 1995 and then received his MBA at Rivier College in 2006. He resides in Lowell with his wife Renee and two daughters, Julia and Amanda.
Beauregard arrives in Lowell after a standout career with the Worcester Tornado's of the Can-Am League and the Saint Anselm Hawks in the Northeast-10.
"Keith has the fire in his belly to become a head coach," Harring said of Beauregard. "He is the best player that I have had the pleasure of coaching and his passion for the game will make us better immediately."
Beauregard put up strong numbers with the Tornado's from 2005-07, with a career average of .288. His finest season came in 2007 as he hit .317 with five home runs, 31 RBI and 15 stolen bases.
"I'm extremely excited about the opportunity to begin my coaching career at UMass Lowell," said Beauregard. "I have the chance to be part of a program with a rich history and tradition. I'd like to thank coach Harring, the UMass Lowell staff and players for welcoming me into the community. I'm looking forward to the road that lies ahead and am excited to get things going."
While a member of the Hawks under Harring from 2002-05, Beauregard set many program records that still stand today. Among his achievements, he owns the Saint Anselm mark for career hits (223), singles (148), doubles (46) and triples (15), while sitting in second for career RBI (102) behind former assistant Kessaris. While at Saint Anselm, he earned his degree in Criminal Justice.
After completing his career with Worcester, Beauregard worked for Prudential Douglas Elliman in New York as a real estate agent from 2008-2010. He currently resides in his hometown of Leominster, MA.
