Hutton Named Lowell Five Athlete of the Week

Jan. 6, 2010

Carter Hutton, a senior goalie from Thunder Bay, ONT, was named the UMass Lowell/Lowell Five Savings Bank Athlete of the Week Wednesday following a milestone last weekend at the Ledyard Bank Classic at Dartmouth College.

Hutton, also named the Hockey East/Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday, stopped 55 of 57 shots on target in a 3-0 win over Holy Cross and a 2-1 loss to Northeastern.

With the victory over Holy Cross, Hutton stopped all 32 shots and set a school record with his ninth career shutout, surpassing the previous mark of eight held by former standout Cam McCormick (1999-02).

Hutton halted 23 of 25 shots in the loss to Northeastern, both goals coming on power plays.

Hutton leads all Hockey East goalies in save percentage (.934), goals against average (1.92) and shutouts (three).

UMass Lowell visits New Hampshire Friday at 7:00 and Northeastern Saturday at 7:00, televised on NESN.

A business management major, Hutton is the son of Jack and Linda Hutton of Thunder Bay, ONT.

The Lowell Five Savings Bank, with 14 locations throughout the Merrimack Valley, is a proud sponsor of UMass Lowell Athletics.

The UMass Lowell Athlete of the Week is selected by the four members of University’s Athletic Media Relations office.
