Jan. 27, 2010

Jeremy Dehner, a senior defenseman from Madison, WI, was named the UMass Lowell/Lowell Five Savings Bank Athlete of the Week Wednesday after leading the ice hockey team to a pair of crucial Hockey East victories last weekend.

In Friday’s 5-4 victory over Merrimack, Dehner assisted on UMass Lowell’s first three goals and scored the River Hawks’ fifth goal on the power play, the proven game-winner.

With Friday’s total, Dehner inched to third among UMass Lowell’s highest scoring defensemen in its Division I era with 75 points.

Dehner followed with a stellar defensive effort in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Boston College, earning a +2 rating and rendering the Eagles scoreless during his shifts.

Dehner was named the Hockey East/Athletic Republic Player of the Week Monday, marking the sixth time a UMass Lowell player has earned weekly honors by the Conference this year. For the season, he has compiled five goals and 12 assists.

UMass Lowell is currently ranked No. 16 in this week’s U.S. College Hockey Online poll. The River Hawks (14-9-2, 8-6-2 in Hockey East) sit in fourth place entering Friday’s clash at Northeastern (7:00).

A business management major, Dehner is the son of Bob and Sandi Dehner of Madison, WI.

The Lowell Five Savings Bank, with 14 locations throughout the Merrimack Valley, is a proud sponsor of UMass Lowell Athletics.

The UMass Lowell Athlete of the Week is selected by the four members of University’s Athletic Media Relations office.
