UMass Lowell Athletics Announces Second Half Promotional Campaign

Jan. 15, 2010

After an exciting promotional campaign in the first half of the season, UMass Lowell looks to continue that success in the second half. The River Hawks set several attendance records earlier this season including highest attendance at a non-conference home opener (5,612 vs. Colgate - 10/23/09) and highest student attendance ever (1,601 vs. Boston University - 10/30/09).

The first half saw a unique slate of events highlighting the promotional calendar including appearances from the Zooperstars!, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George and The Grinch! The Athletic Marketing Department looks to continue that trend with a host of exciting promotions during the second half of the hockey season, headlined by the upcoming Star Wars Night on January 23 against Boston College and WHITE-OUT Night on February 5 against Boston University.

In addition to exciting single-game promotions for the second half of the season, the River Hawks are proud to add a new wrinkle to their merchandise line as fans will now be able to purchase commemorative autographed photos of their favorite players. Senior goaltender Carter Hutton (Thunder Bay, Ont.) will be the first player in this limited-edition series with his photo for sale at Saturday's tilt against Massachusetts.

Also, UMass Lowell will be reintroducing its "Pick-a-Stick" promotion on Saturday. Fans can purchase raffle tickets at remaining home games and enter to win their favorite player's hockey stick at the end of the season. A special on-ice presentation will take place after the River Hawks' final regular season game on March 6 where players will present the winning fans with their game-used sticks!

Finally, the River Hawks will continue to collect cell phones as part of the "Cell Phones for Soldiers" program, started on-campus by senior defenseman Barry Goers (Ivyland, PA). Thus far, UMass Lowell has collected over 150 phones and more than $200 in cash donations for the program. One cell phone equals one hour of talk time in calling cards for a soldier overseas. Fans who bring a phone to Saturday's game will receive a pair of FREE tickets to next Friday's tilt against Merrimack. For more information, visit www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com.
