Junior F Brianne McDonnell (Commack, NY) scored two goals as Adelphi University defeated UMass Lowell, 2-0, Saturday in a Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer clash at Cushing Field.

With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 1-1 entering Sunday's home match against Florida Southern College (1:00). Adelphi improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the NE-10 and host Saint Rose Monday (1:00).

Sophomore G Dorothy Connolly (Bethpage, NY) stopped two shots en route to her second clean sheet of the season. Senior G Jamie Gillis (North Billerica, MA) also had two saves.

UMass Lowell had a 9-8 edge on shots overall while Adelphi outshot UMass Lowell, 4-2, on target.

The Panthers opened the scoring in the 30th minute when junior F Kim Volinski (Greenport, NY) centered a pass to McDonnell, which she tucked inside the left post.

The River Hawks nearly leveled a minute before the half when junior Brianne Bozzella (Wilmington, MA) possessed a failed clearance and volleyed off the crossbar. freshman M Charlotte Jensen (Wilmington, MA) took the rebound, but fired into the grasp of Connolly.

Adelphi went 2-0 ahead just 18 seconds into the second half when senior F Caitlin Morrison (Beacon, NY) crossed from the right flank, which McDonnell headed past Gillis.

UMass Lowell continued to pressure and nearly cut the lead in half seven minutes from time when senior F Kelly Soper (Auburn, MA) possessed in the box, but put her attempt over the bar.
