Sophomore F Michael White scored two unassisted goals to lead Stonehill College over UMass Lowell, 2-1, Tuesday in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer tilt in Easton. MA.
The loss was the third straight for the River Hawks, who slipped to 3-5-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the NE-10 entering Saturday’s match at Saint Anselm (3:30). The Skyhawks snapped a three-game slide and improved to 6-4-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the Conference.
White put the Skyhawks ahead in the 17th minute when he possessed a deflection and slotted home.
The River Hawks leveled, however, just 58 seconds later when sophomore M Matheus Candido (Lowell, MA) released junior Stephen Potcner (Wilmington, MA) on a breakaway for his team-high fifth goal of the season.
Stonehill, which outshot UMass Lowell 12-10 overall and 9-4 on target, earned the game-winner in the 60th on a counter attack when a saved shot went directly to White, who one-timed from 12 yards out.
Senior G Ryan Richards (Holden, MA) stopped seven shots for the River Hawks while junior Brandon McFarlane halted three attempts for Stonehill.
