Audio Recap - The River Hawk Report

The River Hawk volleyball team fell in its second of two Saturday afternoon games, dropping three consecutive sets to Dowling College. Despite the loss, three UMass Lowell players reached double-digit kills as Jillian Hadder (Yucaipa, CA) tallied 13, while Elsa LeGrand (Highslands Ranch, CO) and Sarah Coscia (Pittsfield, MA) hit 10 each.

The match scores were 23-25, 23-25 and 26-28.

The River Hawks (8-6, 3-1 NE-10) played with a great deal of energy early, never trailing until late in the first set when the Golden Lions (11-4, 2-0 ECC) made it 18-19. Dowling hit with an unusually high team attack percentage, .444, and eventually nabbed the win.

UMass Lowell attacked the second set immediately, jumping out to an 8-3 lead, but it slowly slipped away as the Golden Lions tied the score at 16-16, before resuming control of the match and securing the set win.

Unfazed, the River Hawks shocked Dowling with a 6-0 start in the third set. The two teams fought hard, even pushing the set into extras, but UMass Lowell ultimately fell by a score of 26-28.

Senior Nicole Rondeau (Dracut, MA) shined in the loss, dishing out 33 assists and digging 11 balls. In addition, junior Vicky Wong (Tewksbury, MA) scored seven kills while adding 14 digs.

The River Hawks will now turn their attention to rival Merrimack on Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. match in the Costello Gym.
