UMass Lowell volleyball received its first Northeast-10 loss of 2009 on Wednesday against Bentley University. The River Hawks fell in three sets despite a solid performance from Elsa LeGrand (Highlands Ranch, CO) who had seven kills, six digs and two blocks.
With the loss UMass Lowell drops to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in conference. The win boosts the Falcons to 7-5 on the season and 2-1 in the Northeast-10.
The River Hawks struggled to gain control in the match, earning its only lead on the night's opening point. Bentley's recent momentum proved to be too much for UMass Lowell, the Falcons have won six of their last seven matches.
LeGrand wasn't alone in her strong play, junior Jillian Hadder (Yucaipa, CA) scored three kills and a match-high 16 digs. Freshman setter Kristina Wiltjer (San Diego, CA) also played well with 11 assists and two blocks.
The River Hawks will try and bounce back as they host two matches on Saturday. Up
first is conference opponent Franklin Pierce at 11 a.m., followed by Dowling at 3 p.m.
