Audio Recap - The River Hawk Report

Senior M Marc Goulet (Plainville, CT) and junior M Michael Adam (Ludlow, MA) scored goals in either half as No. 7 Southern New Hampshire defeated UMass Lowell, 2-0, Wednesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer clash at Cushing Field.

With the loss, the River Hawks slipped to 3-3-0 overall and 2-2 in the NE-10 entering Saturday’s match at American International (3:00). Southern New Hampshire improved to 7-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the NE-10 and visits New Haven Saturday at 1:00.

The win marked the sixth straight clean sheet for the Penmen, who have not conceded a goal in 628 minutes.

SNHU broke the drought just 17 seconds from the half when Goulet’s inswinging corner kick from the left side went untouched inside the far post. The Penmen doubled their lead in the 59th when sophomore D Jayme Kapinos (Ludlow, MA) crossed from the right flank to Adam, who settled and slotted inside the left post.

The Penmen nearly scored in the 17th minute, but an attempt by freshman M Ruben Resendes (Fall River, MA) from the right side caromed off the near post.

The Penmen continued to pressure and nearly tallied in the 21st minute when a point-blank header by senior D Richard Kentish (Kingston, Jamaica) was spectacularly gloved over the bar by senior G Ryan Richards (Holden, MA).

UMass Lowell’s best chance of the half came in the 43rd minute when senior F Jeffery Danso (Worcester, MA) broke free along the right touchline, but his sidefoot was kicked away by graduate G Sean Lambert (Rehoboth, MA).

The River Hawks nearly cut the lead in half in the 87th, but a free kick at the top of the box by sophomore Matheus Candido (Lowell, MA) cleared the wall but soared right at Lambert.

Shots favored SNHU 16-11 overall and 9-5 on target. Richards had seven saves for UMass Lowell while Lambert saved all five attempts.
