The UMass Lowell men's and women's soccer teams have plenty of opportunity in tonight's key Northeast-10 Conference matches tonight against Southern New Hampshire.

On the men's side, UMass Lowell hosts the No. 7 Penmen at Cushing Field while the women kickoff in Manchester, NH, both starting at 7:00.

Following a 3-0 loss at Franklin Pierce last week and a shaky first half in

Saturday's 2-1 victory over Assumption, UMass Lowell has a chance to make a statement and gain valuable ground tonight with a victory.

The Penmen, ranked No. 7 in the latest NSCAA Division II poll, bring a streak of five shutouts and 538 scoreless minutes into tonight's clash, last surrendering a goal in the 22nd minute of a 3-1 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Sept. 3.

Following a 2-0 loss to Dowling Aug. 29, SNHU is unbeaten in six straight, including the likes of Franklin Pierce (2-0) and No. 21 Le Moyne (3-0) before drawing 0-0 at Stonehill and defeating American International (3-0).

Tonight's match is only the second away from home for the Penmen.

A victory is vital tonight for UMass Lowell, which faces five straight matches away from home beginning Saturday at American International. Three standings points would put the River Hawks back into the thick of the Northeast-10 Conference race.

On the women's side, the River Hawks bring a school-record streak of 472 shutout minutes into the match, extended last week by victories over Saint Anselm (3-0), away to Assumption (1-0) and a 0-0 deadlock at Bridgeport.

UMass Lowell meets a SNHU team which is currently 3-5-1 (1-3-1 in the NE-10) and looking to rebound following a pair of overtime losses at home to Stonehill (2-1, 2OT) and at American International (3-2).

The River Hawks currently share second place with Franklin Pierce (7-2, 5-1 NE-10) while Saint Rose (7-0, 5-0) remain unbeaten. UMass Lowell hosts American International Saturday (1:00).
