UMass Lowell Empty in 3-0 Loss at Franklin Pierce

Freshman F Nicholas Schibly and sophomore F Diego Tabares each scored one goal and assisted on another to lead Franklin Pierce over UMass Lowell, 3-0, Wednesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer tilt at Sodexho Field.

With the loss, the River Hawks slipped to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the NE-10 entering Saturday's home clash against Assumption (1:00). The Ravens improved to 4-2-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the Conference.

Senior G Ryan Richards (Holden, MA) stopped three shots as the River Hawks were outshot 14-12 overall and 6-3 on target.

Tabares, who transferred to Franklin Pierce after playing for the River Hawks last season, opened the scoring in the 24th minute with help from Schibly, who possessed a deflection and dropped off for Tabares at the penalty spot.

The Ravens doubled their lead in the first minute of the second half when graduate D Kevin Neumen headed home from a corner kick by senior M Kensaku Tsuji.

Tabares returned the favor to Schibly in the 55th on a free kick, which Schibly headed inside the left post.

The River Hawks had a chance to cut into the lead in the final minute on a header by sophomore M Benny Tavana (Middletown, CT), which sophomore G Vinny Papageorgiou saved admirably.

Papageorgiou had three saves for the Ravens.
