LOWELL, Mass. (May 29, 2009) - Jack Leathersich (Beverly, Mass.) was named to the 2009 New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star game, the NEIBA announced Friday. Leathersich will represent the College Division Team.
The game is scheduled to be played on Thursday, June 4 at Brockton's Campanelli Stadium at 7:00 p.m. The rain make-up date is Friday, June 5.
Leathersich was named the 2009 Northeast-10 Freshman Pitcher of the Year. He was also named to the NE-10 All-Rookie team and the conference First Team.
Leathersich was 7-4 with a 2.18 earned run average in 13 appearances, 10 starts. He held opponents to a .226 average, struck out 63 and allowed just 17 earned runs.
He was among the Northeast-10 leaders in earned runs (tied for fifth), earned run average (seventh) and strikeouts (eighth).
Leathersich allowed one or fewer earned runs in seven of his 10 starts. He pitched at least seven innings or more six times with three complete games.
The River Hawks posted a 25-21 record. They were sixth in the NE-10 standings with a 15-15 mark. UML reached the semifinal round of the NE-10 Tournament.
