Sophomore Lauren Raimondi (East Longmeadow, MA), senior Rex Radloff (Dedham, MA) and freshman Jeff Wundt (Southwick, MA) each earned Athlete of the Week honors from the Northeast-10 Conference Monday following stellar efforts at the New England Track and Field Championship Friday and Saturday.
Raimondi was named the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week while Radloff was named the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week and Wundt the Men’s Freshman Athlete of the Week.
Raimondi won the high jump at the New England Championship as she cleared 5 feet, 4.5 inches. She also placed second and earned All-New England honors in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.37 seconds to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championship.
After placing second in both the 2008 New England outdoor and the 2009 indoor 5,000 meters, Radloff won the 5,000 with a time of 14:35.60, provisionally qualifying for the NCAAs He also earned All-New England status in the 1,500 meters, placing seventh in 3:53.12, which also meets the NCAA provision.
Wundt ran a 47.9-second leg on UMass Lowell’s 4X400 meter relay team which captured its seventh New England title of the decade with a time of 3:10.90. With the result, the River Hawks automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship and currently rank 10th in the country.
A host of UMass Lowell athletes will compete at the NCAAs on Thursday, May 21 through Saturday, May 23 at Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX.
