LOWELL, Mass. - Seniors Graeme Clohosey (Derry, N.H.) and Tim Keene (Berlin, N.H.) lead the UMass Lowell baseball team into the final series of the regular season this weekend against Franklin Pierce.
The two teams play a doubleheader in Rindge, N.H. on Saturday and close out the regular season on Senior Day at LeLacheur Park Sunday.
Clohosey and Keene have left their mark of the UML program during their four years with the program. They have helped the team to 120 victories, the 2006 Northeast-10 tournament championship and two trips to the NCAA tournament.
Clohosey, the captain of the 2009 team, has been a part of the team's success both at the plate and behind the plate as the squad's catcher. Clohosey has appeared in 107 career games and is hitting a career-best .308 this season.
An excellent defensive catcher, Clohosey has helped the River Hawks achieve one of the best team ERA's in the Northeast-10 in each of the last four years.
Off the field Clohosey was selected to attend the Division II Leadership Academy in Philadelphia in February 2008. The conference brought other Division II athletes in the Northeast together to discuss leadership practices, common issues, and develop a leadership action plan on campus.
Keene has been a consistent offensive force for the River Hawks in each of his four seasons in Lowell. Primarily a third baseman, Keene has collected over 40 hits each season, scored 20 or more runs twice (17 this year), and picked up 20 or more RBI three straight years.
Keene has started 165 of the 176 games he has played in his career.
Keene and Clohosey lead the River Hawks into an important series this weekend against Franklin Pierce. The Ravens are in first place in the Northeast-10 standings with a 21-6 league mark. The River Hawks are in fifth place in the NE-10 standings with a 15-12 conference record, one game behind four-place Bentley (16-11).
Overall UMass Lowell is 24-16 in 40 games this season. Franklin Pierce brings a 30-15 mark into Saturday's play.
The River Hawks and Ravens have not met this season. UML can clinch a playoff spot with a win, while FPU is seeking its third regular season title in the last four years.
Saturday's doubleheader begins at noon at Dr. Pappas Field in Rindge. Sunday's regular season finale is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. The Senior Day ceremony will take place at 10:45 a.m.
