Junior Tim Guerin (Auburn, MA) placed eighth overall in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to lead three UMass Lowell runners at Princeton University’s Sam Howell Invitational Friday.
The invitational consisted of athletes from all three NCAA divisions as well as those representing postgraduate track and field clubs throughout the country.
Guerin placed third in the steeplechase among Division II and III athletes and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship with a time of 9:22.59, nearly four seconds below the NCAA mark of 9:26.
Guerin was one of three UMass Lowell athletes competing at the Sam Howell Invitational. Senior Jason DeDonato (Nashua, NH) placed 22nd overall and fifth among Division II-III athletes in the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:17.64.
Freshman Jeff Veiga (Lowell, MA) took 23rd overall (eighth among II-III runners) in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:20.88.
UMass Lowell hosts the George Davis Invitational Saturday at the Cushing Field Complex.
