LOWELL, Mass. - Ted Haley (Cranston, R.I.) pitched seven innings of shutout ball to earn his sixth win of the year as UMass Lowell shutout Saint Anselm, 2-0, Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 baseball action at LeLacheur Park.
The River Hawks have won four of six. They improve to 24-15 overall and 15-11 in the Northeast-10. The Hawks have dropped three of four and fall to 15-28. They are 10-17 in conference play.
Haley pitched seven shutout innings allowing just seven hits. Haley struck out three and walked just one. Haley improved his record to 6-0 on the year.
Todd Bartelson pitched a scoreless eighth. Dallas Nunes (Easton, Mass.) worked the ninth to earn his eighth save of the season.
Offensively the River Hawks broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run on two hits. Peter Onorato tripled to open the inning. Two batters later he came around to score on Taylor von Kriegenbergh's single down the right field line.
UML added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh with a steal of home by Pat Devlin. After Graeme Clohosey walked to lead off the inning, Devlin reached first with a bunt single. After a ground out and a fielder's choice, Devlin stole home.
Sean Hayden (Haverhill, Mass.) took the loss for Saint Anselm. He allowed two runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings. He walked three and struck out three. His record dropped to 1-2.
The River Hawks return to the field Wednesday for a doubleheader at Bloomfield. The Hawks are next in action Wednesday at Assumption.
