WORCESTER, Mass. – Peter Onorato (Clarence Center, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, but Assumption defeated UMass Lowell, 11-4, in a rain-shortened eight-inning Northeast-10 baseball game at Rocheleau Field.
The Greyhounds have won four straight and improve to 22-13-1 overall. They are 14-6-1 in the NE-10 with the win. The River Hawks have lost two in a row. They fall to 20-13 overall and 12-9 in the NE-10.
Assumption jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first and. The Greyhounds scored all 11 of their runs by the end of the sixth inning.
UMass Lowell scored its first run in the second and its final three in the eighth.
The Greyhounds had four players with multiple hits led by Mike Foley (Worcester, Mass.) and Steve Scannell (Worcester, Mass.) with four hits each.
Derek Migrants (Ayer, Mass.) was 2-for-5 with five RBI. Migrants had two-run doubles in each the fourth and fifth innings.
Frank Flynn (Worcester, Mass.) hit a two-run home run in the Greyhounds’ four-run fifth.
Onorato was one of three River Hawks with multiple hits. Sean Burns (Colchester, Vt.) and Mark Sanborn (Hopkinton, Mass.) also had two hits in the game.
Zachary Jacques (Jefferson, Mass.) got the win for Assumption. He allowed just one run on seven hits over six innings. Jacques struck out six and walked four.
Ryan Stoller (Milton, Mass.) took the loss for UML. He allowed six runs (five earned) over eight hits in 3.2 innings. Stoller fanned two and walked one.
The River Hawks and Greyhounds complete their three-game series Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader at LeLacheur Park. The first game is set for 3:30 p.m. Game 2 will follow.
