Gallardo Leads River Hawks to Third at River Hawk Invitational

Senior Anthony Gallardo (Methuen, MA) shot a two-day score of 153 to lead the UMass Lowell golf team to third place at the River Hawk Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Meadow Creek Golf Course.

UMass Lowell shot a combined score of 626 – a 317 for the first round followed by a Sunday-low of 309 – to place in third. Adelphi won the team title with a 305-313—618 and edged Southern New Hampshire, which took second with a 303-317—620.

Assumption placed fourth with a 317-319—636 and was followed by Bentley (642), Dowling (647), St. Thomas Aquinas (647), Pace (676) and New Haven (683).

Gallardo carded a four-over-par 75 Saturday and followed with a 78 Sunday to place in a tie for fifth while junior Patrick Bean (Fitchburg, MA) placed tied for seventh with an 81-73—154.

Sophomore Matt Twomey (Salem, MA) and sophomore Thomas Ayala (East Taunton, MA) placed tied for 21st with a 164. Twomey carded rounds of 81-83 while Ayala shot 87-77.

Sophomore Andrew Albrecht (Georgetown, ONT) was right behind in 25th with a 79-86—165.

Adelphi’s Brant Kummerfeld earned medalist honors as he shot a 76-72—148 to defeat Assumption’s James Farrea (77-74—151) and Pace’s Kent St. Charles (73-78—151) by three strokes.

UMass Lowell enters American International College’s Yellow Jacket Invitational Monday at the Springfield Country Club.
