MANCHESTER, N.H. - Tim Keene (Berlin, N.H.) had two hits and three RBI as UMass Lowell defeated Southern New Hampshire, 7-3, Thursday afternoon in Northeast-10 baseball action at Penmen Field.
The River Hawks have won two straight and improve to 18-11 overall and 10-7 in NE-10 play. The Penmen have lost three straight and fall to 11-19-1 overall and 8-11-1 against the league.
UML scored seven runs on 13 hits, jumping out to an early lead. The River Hawks scored three first inning runs and two more in the second.
SNHU had eight hits on the day and plated single runs in each the first, fourth and fifth innings.
Taylor von Kriegenbergh (Stoneham, Mass.) had the big hit in the first inning with a two-run double to right field. Luke Wallace (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) also had a run-scoring hit in the first.
Keene, who singled and scored in the first knocked in the first second inning run with a single to right. Wallace followed with his second RBI single of the day.
T.J. Leary added to the River Hawks' lead with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Keene capped the scoring with a sac fly in the eighth.
Tim Rines (Merrimack, N.H.), in the first inning, and Eric Pelletier (Beverly, Mass.), in the fifth, had run-scoring hits for the Penmen.
Ted Haley (Cranston, R.I.) improved his record to 4-0 with another solid effort on the mound. Haley allowed just six hits and struck out nine over seven innings of work.
Ryan Stoller (Milton, Mass.) and Dallas Nunes (Easton, Mass.) each worked a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.
Steve Goldbranson (Abington, Mass.) took the loss for Southern New Hampshire. He allowed six runs, five earned, on 12 hits over seven innings. Goldbranson walked three and struck out six.
The River Hawks return to the field Saturday afternoon when they host Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 doubleheader at LeLacheur Park. The first game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. The Penmen are next in action Saturday for a doubleheader at New Haven.
