River Hawk Radio Update: Murray Named UMass Lowell / UPS Athlete of the Week
Cory Murray (Methuen, MA), a sophomore thrower on the track and field team, was named UMass Lowell's UPS Athlete of the Week Tuesday following a stellar showing at the George Davis Invitational Saturday.
Murray captured his second shot put championship in as many weeks and broke a meet record with a throw of 51 feet, 4.5 inches Saturday at the sixth annual George Davis Invitational at the Cushing Field Complex.
The distance eclipsed the previous meet record of 50' 4.0'' set last year by former River Hawk thrower Rocky LeFort.
Murray was also named the Northeast-10 Conference Field Athlete of the Week Monday.
Murray won the shot put title last week at the Stonehill Invitational and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship with a toss of 52' 8.75'', currently 15th on the Division II list.
UMass Lowell enters the Larry Ellis Invitational Saturday at Princeton.
Murray is the son of William Murray and Kelly Timmons of Methuen, MA.
