Senior CF Stacey Lajoie (Gardner, MA) and freshman P Elyssa Boris (Gardner, MA) each batted 4 for 7 as UMass Lowell split with Bentley University Wednesday in a Northeast-10 Conference softball twin bill in Waltham.

UMass Lowell won the opener 7-2 while Bentley prevailed in the nightcap, 2-1.

With the split, UMass Lowell stands at 3-14-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the NE-10 entering tomorrow’s doubleheader at Merrimack (3:00). Bentley is currently 10-8 overall and 3-3 in the NE-10.

Boris (2-6) also earned her second win in as many days as she scattered six hits, two runs (one earned) and two walks while striking out five in six innings. She also batted 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI while Lajoie went 3 for 4 with two runs and one RBI.

Junior 2B Katelyn Hebert (Lowell, MA) batted 2 for 3 with two runs, two triples and one RBI.

The River Hawks pulled away from a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning with a four-run outburst. Freshman LF Meagan Guy (Berlin, CA) and Boris each had RBI singles while freshman Lindsi Panarelli (Shrewsbury, MA) capped the rally with a two-run single.

UMass Lowell opened the scoring in the fifth inning behind an RBI triple by Hebert and an RBI single from Lajoie, who later reached home on an error.

Bentley pulled two runs in the bottom half of the fifth behind and RBI single by sophomore Christine D’Amico.

Freshman P Tara Fogarty took the loss for the Falcons, scattering eight hits, five runs (four earned) and two walks while striking gout three.

In the nightcap, freshman Jazmine Ortiz broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning with an RBI double to lift the Falcons to the win.

Bentley opened the scoring in the fifth when Oritz walked and reached home on an error.

UMass Lowell leveled in the sixth when Boris hit an RBI single to score sophomore LF Hannah May (Hardwick, MA).

Boris batted 2 for 3 to lead UMass Lowell while Ortiz went 3 for 3 for the Falcons.

Freshman P Marissa Fiorentino (Tewksbury, MA) took the loss (1-5) as she allowed five hits, three walks and an unearned run while striking out three.

Junior P Ashley Messina improved to 5-4 as she scattered four hits, one walk and an unearned run while striking out four.
