Nebraska-Omaha Edges UMass Lowell in Marathon, 3-2

UMass Lowell and Nebraska-Omaha traded runs in the eighth and ninth innings, but it was the Mavericks who scored last en route to a 3-2 victory Friday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Softball Games in Kissimmee, FL.

Junior Jenna Dell hit an RBI single to score freshman Katelyn Hinton in the bottom of the 10th inning for the win.

UMass Lowell hosts Saint Anselm Wednesday at 3:00.

After seven scoreless innings, UMass Lowell broke the drought in the eighth when sophomore Hannah May (Hardwick, MA) scored on a passed ball.

After UWP equalized in the bottom half, the River Hawks took a 2-1 lead in the ninth when Boris singled home freshman Paula Ruszkowski (Reading, MA).

UNO, however, again knotted the score in the ninth and went ahead in the fateful 10th inning behind Dell's RBI single.

Sophomore P Beth Haley earned the win as she surrendered two unearned runs, two walks and four hits while striking out 10.

Sophomore Nicole Monroe (Townsend, MA) took the loss as she scattered one unearned run, one hit and a strikeout in the 10th inning.

The loss overshadowed a stellar effort by freshman P Marissa Fiorentino (Tewksbury, MA), who went nine innings and allowed no runs, four walks and three hits while striking out two.
