Slide Continues as UMass Lowell Falls to Augustana, 5-1

Early runs continued to haunt the UMass Lowell softball team as the River Hawks suffered a 5-1 loss to Augustana (SD) Thursday at the Rebel Spring Softball Games in Kissimmee, FL.

Coupled with a 5-1 loss to Minnesota-Duluth on Thursday, UMass Lowell slipped to 0-8 entering Friday’s clashes against Nebraska-Omaha (9:00) and Wisconsin-Parkside (11:00).

Augustana scored two runs in the first inning, two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to keep the River Hawks searching for their first win.

Senior Ally Rutherford sparked the first inning with an RBI double and later scored on an error for the early lead. Junior Kayla Henke sealed the win in the fifth when she drove in two runs with a double.

The loss spoiled a solid day by senior Stacey Lajoie (Gardner, MA), who batted 3 for 3 with a run.

Freshman P Britt Stewart earned the win as she allowed six hits, two walks and one run while striking out eight.

Freshman Marissa Fiorentino (Tewksbury, MA) slipped to 0-3 with the loss, scattering five hits, three earned runs, two walks and one strikeout.
