UMass Lowell surrendered three runs in the second inning and was unable to recover Wednesday in a 6-1 loss to Minnesota-Duluth at the Rebel Spring Softball Games.
With the loss, coupled with a 7-2 setback to Minnesota State-Moorhead, UMass Lowell slipped to 0-6 and meets Augustana (SD) Thursday at 3:00 and Minnesota-Duluth at 5:00. The River Hawks cap the trip Friday against Nebraska-Omaha (9:00) and Wisconsin-Parkside (11:00).
Junior P Kristin Danielson highlighted a three-run second inning with an RBI single as Minnesota-Duluth never looked back.
The River Hawks pulled a run back behind an RBI single from freshman Paula Ruszkowski (Reading, MA), which drove in junior Katie Hebert (Lowell, MA), who had earlier singled.
Danielson surrendered one run, three walks and two hits while striking out four to get the win.
Freshman Marissa Fiorentino (Tewksbury, MA) took the loss as she scattered six hits, five runs and seven walks while striking out five.
