Leathersich, River Hawks Salvage Split With Molloy

Freshman P Jack Leathersich (Beverly, MA) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out four as UMass Lowell defeated Molloy College, 1-0, to salvage a split following an 8-5 loss Sunday afternoon at Lynn University.
With the split, UMass Lowell stands at 4-3 entering Monday's twin bill with Caldwell College at Florida Athletic University (12:00).
Molloy is currently 8-3 overall.
In the opener, the Lions scored seven runs in the sixth inning and withstood a late rally from the River Hawks en route to the 8-5 victory. Sophomore DH Joe Menendez batted 4 for 5 with a two-run double in the fateful sixth while senior SS Patrick Walsh added a three-run single.
Senior 2B Peter Loeb batted 2 for 3 with a run while junior LF T.J. Greig batted 2 for 4 for Molloy.
Senior 3B Tim Keene (Berlin, NH) went 2 for 4 with a run to lead UMass Lowell while junior 1B Taylor von Kriegenbergh (Stoneham, MA) went 2 for 5 with two runs and one RBI. Freshman 2B Pat Devlin (Tewksbury, MA) also hit 2 for 5.
The River Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth behind an RBI single by junior SS J.T. Leary (Newburyport, MA) and a sac fly by junior LF Peter Onorato (Clarence Center, NY).
Following Molloy's sixth-inning outburst, UMass Lowell came back with three runs in the ninth. Junior CF Luke Wallace (Yorktown Heights, NY) walked and later scored on a throwing error and Keene followed when junior C Matt Lawlor (Dracut, MA) was hit by a pitch.
Von Kriegenbergh later scored on a groundout by Leary.
Sophomore P Kyle Davis (Rochester, NH) took the loss, slipping to 1-2. Davis yielded nine hits, seven runs (three earned) and two walks while striking out five in 6.0 innings. Freshman P Justin Jorgensen earned the win to improve to 2-0, scattering nine hits, two runs and five walks while striking out two in 8.0 innings.
In the second game, Leary reached first on a two-out fielding error, stole second and scored on a walk-off single by Onorato for the win.
Onorato batted 2 for 2 while freshman RF Matt Jacobs (Hudson, MA) and Wallace each went 1 for 2.
Leathersich improved to 2-0 this season.
Junior C Brian Benes batted 2 for 3 to lead the Lions. The loss spoiled a solid effort by sophomore P Steven Stewart, who scattered four hits, an unearned run, one walk and one strikeout in 6.2 innings to slip to 0-2.
