Junior MH Sarah Coscia (Pittsfield, MA) compiled a game-high 11 kills and three blocks as UMass Lowell defeated Assumption, College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-18), Friday night in a Northeast-10 Conference volleyball match at the Costello Athletic Center.
The victory was the third straight and sixth in their last seven matches for the River Hawks, who wrapped up the regular season 19-9 overall and 11-4 in the Conference. UMass Lowell hosts the 2009 NE-10 Tournament beginning Friday at 5:00 and 7:30 and continuing Saturday with the semifinals at 2:00 and the championship at 7:00.
UMass Lowell's six seniors - Elsa LeGrand (Highlands Ranch, CO), Allie Eide (Gresham, OR), Nichole Rondeau (Dracut, MA), Stephanie Marshall (Medway, MA), Kasey Smith (Tewksbury, MA) and Ashlee Scott (Quincy, MA) - were honored prior to the game.
Assumption capped the season 2-19 overall and 1-13 in the Conference.
Coscia hit .500, committing just one error in 20 attacks while LeGrand and junior OH Vicky Wong (Tewksbury, MA) each added five kills and seven digs. Wong also served four aces.
Rondeau dished out 14 assists while Eide led the River Hawk defense with 12 digs.
Senior OH Jessica Haller (Meriden, CT) led the Greyhounds with seven kills and 10 digs while junior MH Aimee Drainville (Rockville, RI) added six kills. Freshman libero Stephanie Whooten (Norton, MA) led all players with 14 digs while senior setter Kelly Bluemenauer (Islip Terrace, NY) dealt 10 assists.
