UMass Lowell Staves Off Pace in NE-10 Quarterfinal, 3-1

Junior MH Sarah Coscia (Pittsfield, MA) compiled 13 kills and three blocks to lead No. 4 UMass Lowell over No. 5 Pace University, 3-1, Friday night in the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Tournament at the Costello Athletic Center.

With the victory, UMass Lowell improved to 20-9 and meets No. 8 Southern Connecticut (26-9) in the semifinal Saturday at 2:00. Game scores were 25-18, 22-25, 25-15, 28-26.

Southern Connecticut stunned No. 1 New Haven, 3-2, in the other quarterfinal Friday.

In the other matches, No. 3 Bentley defeated Le Moyne, 3-1, while No. 2 Adelphi defeated No. 7 American International. 3-1. Bentley (17-11) meets Adelphi (26-8) Saturday at 2:00 in the other semifinal.

The championship is slated for 7:00

Junior OH Vicky Wong (Tewksbury, MA) added 11 kills, six digs and two aces while hitting .348 while senior OH Elsa LeGrand (Highlands Ranch, CO) compiled 10 digs, seven kills, seven blocks and two aces.

Junior OH Jillian Hadder (Yucaipa, CA) added eight kills, 15 digs and three blocks and sophomore Lea Freeman (Methuen, MA) six kills. Senior libero Allie Eide (Gresham, OR) led the defense with 18 digs while senior S Nichole Rondeau (Dracut, MA) dished out 35 assists.

Freshman OH Susana Verdugo Del Real (El Centro, CA) led the Setters with 15 kills and three digs while junior MB Victoria Pompilus (Mount Vernon, NY) added 13 kills and three blocks. Sophomore S Shea Hansen (Mesa, AZ) dished out 42 assists while junior libero Stephanie Kazmierczak (Buffalo, NY) led the defense with 23 digs.
