Junior MH Sarah Coscia (Pittsfield, MA) compiled 37 kills and nine blocks to lead UMass Lowell over the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez (3-1) and Queens College (3-1) Saturday in a non-conference volleyball double bill in Flushing, NY.
The victories were UMass Lowell's fourth and fifth in the last six matches, lifting it to 13-7 overall entering Friday's home clash against New Haven (7:00). Queens slipped to 2-13 while PR-Mayaguez (8-1) suffered its first loss.
UMass Lowell won the opener against PR-Mayaguez 25-23, 18-25, 25-19 and 26-24 and overcame a 0-1 deficit against Queens to prevail 23-25, 25-15, 25-10 and 25-14.
Against PR-Mayaguez, Coscia compiled 21 kills and five blocks while junior OH Jillian Hadder (Yucaipa, CA) added 14 kills and 12 digs. Senior Elsa LeGrand (Highlands Ranch, CO) chipped in nine kills and four blocks while junior OH Vicky Wong (Tewksbury, MA) had seven kills, 12 digs and three blocks.
Sophomore S Larissa Niu (Oceanside, CA) dished out 34 assists in addition to eight digs and three kills while senior S Nichole Rondeau (Dracut, MA) chipped in 13 assists and 11 digs. Senior libero Allie Eide (Gresham, OR) compiled 25 digs.
Keyla Pagan led PRM with 17 kills and 13 digs while Laura Matos chipped in 12 kills and 11 digs.
In the victory over Queens, Coscia compiled 16 kills and four blocks while LeGrand added 10 kills and nine digs and Hadder 10 kills, eight digs and four aces.
Rondeau handed out 25 assists in addition to three kills, three digs and two aces. Eide led the defense with 13 digs.
Sophomore OH Camila Dantas led the Knights with nine kills and seven digs while senior S Janice Loo had 28 assists and 14 digs.
