The No. 5 UMass Lowell River Hawks (12-2, 4-1 NE-10) rolled past the Purple Knights of Saint Michael’s College (3-10, 1-4 NE-10) on Saturday afternoon with a 5-1 victory in conference action on Cushing Field.
Senior midfielder Molly Clay (Rockport, MA) tallied a pair of goals on the afternoon, while junior midfielders Liz Day (North Andover, MA) and Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, MA) each added a goal and an assist in the victory.
Netminder Amy Carbon (Bellingham, MA) played the entire game, allowing just one goal, a penalty stroke, in her ninth victory of the year.
Katie Enaire (Amesbury, MA) notched her 12th goal of the season to open scoring in the seventh minute of play (6:34). She and Macy had an odd-man rush to the net and Macy centered the ball from the left side of the cage and found Enaire for the score, giving the River Hawks the early lead.
Macy struck with her 17th tally of the year, converting a pass from Day off a penalty corner in the 29th minute of play (28:28). The River Hawks entered halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Purple Knight senior Molly DeMasi (Burlington, VT) converted a penalty stroke in the 43rd minute of play (42:47) to put Saint Michael’s on the board.
Clay tallied her two goals in the first in the 45th minute of play (44:22) and 60th minute of play (59:00). Her first was a shot through a crowded circle that found the back of the cage, while her second came off a pass from defender Annie Hansbury (Plaistow, NH) on the penalty corner.
The River Hawks’ final tally came in the 63rd minute of play (62:12) when Day shot through a crowd in front of the cage and tallied her fifth goal of the year to finalize UMass Lowell’s 5-1 victory.
UMass Lowell held a 27-3 advantage in shots on the afternoon, including a 14-1 advantage in the second half. They also held an 11-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Purple Knight goalkeeper Meghan McLaughlin (Cape Elizabeth, ME) stopped seven shots in her 64:20 of play.
The River Hawks return to action on Tuesday evening, when they host Stonehill for a Northeast-10 Conference game on Cushing Field at 7:00 p.m.
