Men's Basketball: Caiola's 26 Lifts UMass Lowell Over Stonehill, 66-49

EASTON, MA - Freshman G Kyle Caiola (Parma, OH) registered a season-high 26 points as UMass Lowell defeated Stonehill College, 66-49, Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball clash at the Merkert Gymnasium.

With the victory, the River Hawks improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the NE-10 entering Sunday's home clash with Bentley (4:00). The loss was the first of the year for Stonehill, which slipped to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the Conference.

The victory marked the third time this season UMass Lowell held an opponent below 50 points.

Caiola converted 10 of 14 shots from the floor, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range.

Junior G Randall Stallworth led the Skyhawks with 11 points, all in the second half.

UMass Lowell outrebounded Stonehill, 36-29 and 15-8 on the offensive end, enabling for a 10-5 scoring advantage on second chances.

Led by Caiola, the River Hawks converted 10 of 19 attempts from 3-point range while the Skyhawks struggled to a 5 for 18 clip.

The River Hawks also outscored Stonehill in the paint (28-18) and off turnovers (17-8) as they forced 16 from the Skyhawks while committing just eight.

UMass Lowell raced out to a 23-8 lead, led by 12 points from Caiola, and never looked back. The River Hawks led by as many as 27 points when Caiola meshed a 3-point shot with 6:27 left to play.
