ORONO, Maine (Jan. 30, 2009) - Three different River Hawks scored, including Kory Falite (Billerica, Mass.) with the game-winning power play goal, to lift UMass Lowell to a 3-2 win over Maine Friday night in Hockey East action at the Alfond Arena.

The River Hawks have won three straight and four of the last five. They improve to 12-12-0 overall and 9-8-0 in league play. The Black Bears are winless in their last nine game (0-8-1) and fall to 10-12-3 overall. They are 5-9-3 against the league.

The River Hawks never trailed in the game and got goals from Falite, Mark Roebothan (St. John's, Nlfd.) and Matt Ferreira (Brampton, Ont.). UML scored a goal at even strength, shorthanded and on the power play.

Robby Dee (Plymouth, Minn.) and Spencer Abbott (Hamilton, Ont.) scored the Black Bears' goals. Both Maine goals came on the power play.

After a scoreless first period that saw the River Hawks out-shoot the Black Bears 15-2, Ferreira opened the scoring at 5:32 of the second. The goal came after Sammy D'Agostino (Medford, Mass.) created a turnover behind the net on the forecheck. Worthington then got the puck to Ferreira who put it in the back of the net.

Maine answered with the first of its two equalizing goals on the night on the power play at 9:03. Dee deflected a shot from defenseman Simon Danis-Pepin (Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que.). Josh Van Dyk (Woodstock, Ont.) picked up the secondary assist.

At 11:14 of the second, on Maine's fifth power play of the game, Mark Roebothan made it a 2-1 River Hawks lead with a shorthanded tally, his fifth goal of the season and third in the last two games. Nick Monroe (Groton, Mass.) and Jeremy Dehner (Madison, Wis.) assisted on the goal.

Two minutes and two seconds after Abbott evened the score for Maine, Falite netted the game-winner on the power play for the River Hawks. Abbott scored at 5:24 of the third, a power play marker - Danis-Pepin and Brian Flynn (Lynnfield, Mass.) assisted on the goal.

Falite's goal, also a power play marker, came at 6:26 of the third. Barry Goers (Ivyland, Pa.) and Maury Edwards (Rocky Rapids, Alta.) picked up the assists.

UML out-shot Maine 38-16 for the game, including a 15-2 edge in the first period and 11-4 edge in the third. Maine was 2-for-7 with five shots on the power play. UMass Lowell was 1-for-6 with nine shots on the man-advantage.

The River Hawks also had a shorthanded goal. Junior Carter Hutton (Thunder Bay, Ont.) made 14 saves to pick up his third straight win for UMass Lowell. Hutton made nine saves in the second period. He is now 5-7-0 on the season.

Dave Wilson (Toronto, Ont.) made 35 saves for Maine, but took the loss. Wilson falls to 2-5-0 with the loss.

"I thought we played extremely well all the entire game," said UMass Lowell head coach Blaise MacDonald. "Our penalty kill was great. We hit three posts in the second period and one in the third. I thought our guys played so hard and so well. I thought we beat Maine in every facet of the game. Our effort and intensity and thoroughness were outstanding. Our physicality was what generated all of our opportunities."

The win for the River Hawks was their first at Alfond Arena since February 17, 2001, a stretch of 15 games. UML had been 0-14-1 in the last 15 trips to Alfond Arena.

The River Hawks return to the ice Friday for a 7:00 p.m. face off at Boston University. The Black Bears are next in action Sunday afternoon (4:00 p.m.) when they host Massachusetts.
