Field Hockey: Moulton, No. 3 UMass Lowell Shuts Out Assumption, 5-0

WORCESTER, MA – Jaci Moulton (Baldwinville, MA) scored two goals and added an assist as No. 3 UMass Lowell defeated Assumption, 5-0, in Northeast-10 field hockey action Thursday night.

The River Hawks have won six straight, the last five by shutouts, and improve to 6-2 overall and 6-0 in the NE-10. The Greyhounds fall to 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the NE-10.

Moulton recorded five points (2 goals, 1 assist) for the second straight game. She now leads the team with 15 points on six goals and three assists.

In addition to Moulton, Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, MA) and Jill Tierney (Newburyport, MA) scored for the River Hawks. Macy tallied twice, including opening the scoring in the 11th minute of play.

Moulton figured into the next three goals, scoring two and assisting on another. She scored in the 24th and 33rd minutes, and assisted on Tierney’s strike in the 43rd minute.

Macy capped the scoring in the 45th minute with her second of the game and seventh of the year. Michelle Harrington (Rockport, MA) assisted on the goal.

The River Hawks out-shot the Greyhounds, 10-3. UML also held a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Amy Carbon (Bellingham, MA) made her second straight start in goal for the River Hawks and earned her second straight shutout. Carbon made one save in 70 minutes of play.

Jacque Dulong (Merrimack, NH) stopped three UML shots, but took the loss for Assumption.

The River Hawks return to the field Saturday at Southern Connecticut (1:00 p.m.). The Greyhounds are next in action Saturday at Saint Michael’s (2:00 p.m.).
